H Gallery + Studios is getting into a new groove for 2020. Following the departure of Yessica Torres, who opened a new gallery space in Downtown Los Angeles, the Midtown Ventura creative space (which, despite an error published in “Arts Briefs” in the Jan. 2 issue, has not closed) has a new curator in Ute Culemann-Ritke. She will debut her first show in February.

Currently on the walls in the contemporary art gallery are works by resident artists who occupy the building’s 20 studio spaces. At the moment, gallery viewings are by appointment only, but the public will have a chance to see the exhibit and meet Culemann-Ritke — as well as H Gallery’s artists, musicians, photographers and other creative types — during The Art of Networking, a mixer for artists and other business professionals, on Jan. 22.

The free event was organized by resident artists Nova Clite and Andi Schoenbaum and sponsored by Business Networking International (BNI) Masters of Business Chapter, based in Thousand Oaks, which aims to build “consistent, proactive and reciprocal business relationships.” Food will be provided by nearby Native Pizza, studios will be open, and prizes will be given away, too.

According to Clite, the mixer will help H Gallery artists further solidify the relationships they have built with the local business community, and expand their networks as well. “We are one of the pioneering businesses of the Ventura Midtown resurgence,” she says. “We look forward to a brilliant new year of art and music in 2020.”

The Art of Networking takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 5:30-7 p.m. at H Gallery + Studios, 1793 E. Main St., Ventura. For more information, visit visithgallery.com or the gallery’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/HGalleryAndStudios.
